Home school Mother’s Journal

In our homeschool this week…

The boys are learning about the Civil Rights Movement this week (and next). They have watched several movies about Rosa Parks, JFK, MLK, a Boycott Video, a Civil Rights Video and read lots of books this week. They have put their math on hold until they start fresh with a new math curriculum next month. Eric is watching the Hound of the Baskervilles today (He has already listend to the book) and John is reading A Man of All Seasons by Robert Bolt. (He will finish this book next week)

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

The boys had a scout meeting this week and Eric had a doctor appointment to get the results of his blood test. (All is good)

My favorite thing this week was…

Seeing the boys play a Civil Rights computer game and enjoying it.

What’s working/not working for us…

The boys seem to be liking their lessons and the schedule they now follow. Last week I was nervous about the schedule but this week I am more relaxed. I plan everything for each subject I want then to accomplish in this week, but don’t assign a day or time limit. They work at their own pace and choose when to do each subject. John wakes at 7am to start is day and Eric by 9am if I let him sleep in. John works on lessons until 4 or 4:30 daily and Eric until 3 or 3:30. They have breaks for their chores, responsibilities, meals, snacks and PE through out the day.
